This last month I have tried some interesting things with DEVBUZZ. It was my intention to roll out Community Server 2007 across the board, blogs, forums and content management. I ported the 40k or so posts from ASPPlayGround to Community Server 2007; a non-trivial exercise and then started the Community Server 2007 roll out. Unfortunately the performance of Community Server 2007 was very disappointing. Whilst it may be the last word in blogging functionality the initialization and aggregation performance is abysmal. I reached out to Telligent and got excellent support from them, although they didn't seem to think that the forum performance was that bad but I was never happy with it, it was much slower than ASPPlayGround. If anything I have even more respect for how well built and performance oriented ASPPlayGround is after this exercise. So we fall back to plan B - which is to RSS enable the forums and introduce some new content management features - time for more custom development.
